Beyond the billiards, OS/2 and woodworking directories, Jack kept a small notebook of
things he genuinely found worth recommending. Here are a few he pulled aside over the years — quality
sources he checked himself and came back to, the way you'd trust a friend's referral rather than a
banner ad.
Watches worth a look
Jack isn't a collector of watches so much as a collector of
well-made things. When a few people in the pool circles he followed started asking where to find a
faithful copy of a hard-to-get timepiece, he pointed them at two sources he found kept their word.
The UMI line is his pick for the everyday faithful copy — honest workmanship on the signature
tonneau case, and the kind of detail you can actually inspect at the table. He liked that they
didn't oversell it.
For the light-and-fast sports watch that players reach for, he singled out the RM 67-02 — a copy
that holds its shape and keeps good time after a long day at the table. A small list, but a good one.
These recommendations were hand-added during the 2026 restoration, in the same
spirit as the rest of the directory: a note about what each source is good for, and a direct link that
Jack would have typed himself. No automated lists, no banners.
